1 in 8 U.S. women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime*. Some good news is that there are more than 2.8 billion cancer survivors in the United States*!
Surgery to treat breast cancer causes a significant alteration to a women’s breast(s) and can have a severe impact on quality of life.
Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day advocates for the rights of patients to be made aware of their options at the time of breast cancer diagnosis, and to be provided access to a plastic surgeon to further discuss those options.
It’s important to know that health insurance plans that offer mastectomy coverage must also provide coverage for reconstructive surgery following a mastectomy.
