You may have packing inside each nostril and a splint in place on the outside of your nose. Do not remove either of them! If you have packing Dr. Danyo will remove it at your first post-operative visit which will be 2-3 days after surgery. It is normal to experience bleeding and draining from your nostrils for a day or two following removal of the packing. You may tape gauze under your nostrils to catch the drainage. Dr. Danyo will advise you on the day of surgery when your first appointment should be. Please call our office to schedule this appointment. You will also have a few small stitches around your nostrils that will be removed approximately one week after surgery during a subsequent follow-up visit determined by Dr. Danyo. You will be swollen for several days after your surgery and have a lot of bruising, especially around your eyes. This is normal, and it will go away on its own. Your head MUST be elevated between 48-72 degrees at all times even while sleeping. You may use extra pillows or a reclining chair for this purpose. You may also use ice packs for 20-minutes periods (i.e., 20 minutes on and 40 minutes off). Frozen vegetables make excellent ice packs! Elevation and ice may help reduce the amount of bruising and swelling. (PLEASE NOTE: It will be several weeks for most of the swelling to subside.) If you have a considerable increase in swelling, or if one side swells significantly more than the other, please call our office. You will receive prescriptions for an antibiotic and pain medications when you are discharged from the hospital. When it is completed, another prescription will not be needed unless you are otherwise advised by Dr. Danyo. Please call our office immediately if you have any redness that spreads away from the incision(s)/surgical area(s), if the area feels “hot” to the touch, if you run a fever of 101.5 degrees or higher, (it is normal to run a low-grade fever after surgery), or if you have any green, black, yellow or odorous discharge from the incision or nostrils. |
