Scar Revision

Scars form after the skin has been injured either by accidents or surgery. Majority of scars heal without complications, however; some can become unsightly do to mechanism of injury, tension on the tissues, location, age, skin type, and genetic make-up. The most common atypical scar formations are atrophic, hypertrophic, and keloid scars.

  • Atrophic scarring presents as depressed or indentations in the skin.
  • Hypertrophic scarring presents as elevated, thickened skin within the boarders of the incision or wound edges.
  • Keloid scarring is an aggressive scar that grows beyond the incision or wound edges and proliferates often-causing pain or significant tissue distortion.
