Lipo-Dissolve Under Investigation

Lipo-dissolve is being marketed as an innovative alternative to liposuction that involves a simple series of medicated injections which dissolve unwanted small localized areas of fat. It is important to note that Lipo-Dissolve is not approved by the FDA. The injections do not stop the aging process and fat can appear again throughout your lifetime.

Liposuction is the only scientifically proven method available to permanently remove fat cells. The beauty of permanent fat cell removal through liposuction is that the fat cells are not able to grow back. Lipo- dissolve is still under investigation - permanent removal of fat has not been established. Some plastic surgeons believe that there is no reason to use lipo- dissolve since liposuction has been proven to be safe and effective at permanent fat cell removal.

Lipo-Dissolve has been used in Europe for some time and it is important to note that European standards and regulation differ significantly from the United States.

The FDA requires much more supporting data than is required in Europe. The lipo-dissolve treatment will need to be standardized and researched. The data will have to demonstrate the medication's effectiveness and safety before being approved for cosmetic use in the United States.

Many doctors discourage the use of Lipo-Dissolve because there are no standard protocols. The ingredients used in lipo-dissolve may vary depending on the doctor and the area being treated.

Breastfeeding Doesn't Create Sagging Breasts
    woman and child
While the benefits of breastfeeding are unquestionable, many new mothers choose not to for fear of sagging breasts. However, breastfeeding alone has no impact on a woman's breast shape, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

The study examined 93 women who were pregnant one or more times prior to having cosmetic breast surgery. Fifty-eight percent of patients reported breastfeeding one or more of their children. The duration of breastfeeding ranged from 2 to 25 months, with an average of nine months. Fifty-five percent of respondents reported an adverse change in the shape of their breasts following pregnancy.

Plastic surgeons found that a history of breastfeeding, the number of children breastfed, the duration of each child's breastfeeding, or the amount of weight gained during pregnancy were not significant predictors for losing breast shape. However, body mass index (BMI), the number of pregnancies, a larger pre- pregnancy bra size, smoking history, and age were significant risk factors for an increased degree of breast sagging.
