December-2003
So many women feel they cannot do anything about the “cards they have been dealt”, however, when it comes to excessively large breasts or acne scarring, it simply is not true.
The articles included in this newsletter are two procedures that are commonly overlooked by so many women who fall into these categories. Take a minute to read the articles I’ve selected for this newsletter. I think you will be surprised.
As always, if you have questions or would like more information on either procedure, feel free to contact my office.

BREAST REDUCTION
CANDIDATES FOR BREAST REDUCTION

- Your breasts are too large in proportion to your body frame
- Heavy, pendulous breasts with nipples and areolas that point downward.
- One breast is noticeably larger than the other
- Back, neck, shoulder pain caused by the weight of your breasts
- Skin irritation beneath your breasts
- Indentations in your shoulders from tight bra straps.
- Feeling restricted from physical activity due to the size and weight of your breasts
- Dissatisfaction or self-consciousness about the largeness of your breasts.
One major misconception with breast reduction surgery is that it is cosmetic in nature. 99% of the time it is medically necessary for the well-being of the patient and therefore typically covered by most health insurance carriers. Most women are in the hospital as an overnight stay with recovery taking only 1 – 2 weeks. For before and after photos:

LASER THERAPY MAY HELP TREAT ACNE
LONDON, (MSN.com) — For 90% of teenagers and many adults suffering from acne, a new treatment is proving to be easier and more effective for a longer period of time than the traditional treatment protocols.
Acne can range from the occasional flare-up of pimples or spots that do not require any treatments to severe cases that can cause scarring and psychological problems appearing on the face, neck, arms, back and chest. Doctors have now found that laser therapy may offer new hope for the skin condition. While it is not permanent cure, it is an excellent treatment for acne.
Traditionally lasers are used to treat acne scarring. It now appears that pulsed-dye lasers have an effect in treating active acne. The advantage to laser treatments is that they are more effective for a longer period of time. Most acne treatments, whether cream or oral antibiotic, must be used daily, whereas only one laser treatment would be needed every three months. Another benefit of laser treatment is that it treats the active acne and the potential scarring at the same time because the laser energy level used to treat both is the same.
Pulsed-dye laser therapy targets red blood cells and is given in very short spurts lasting about 0.3 milliseconds. The entire treatment lasts about 10 minutes, is painless and does not have any side effects.
Laser therapy has already been used to increase collagen production in the skin to smooth wrinkles and facial lines. Researchers suspect in acne it reduces inflammation that causes the spots to come up.
