Two very interesting articles for
your reading pleasure. The most
exciting news is that the wrinkle filler Restylane has officially been approved
by the FDA. I have treated several

& longer lasting than other wrinkle-fillers on the market today. Looking forward to seeing you
soon. Joe

Reducing Fillers to Enhance Face of Plastic

FDA Panel Recommends
Conditional Approval of Restylane and Hylaform
Restylane and
Hylaform are hyaluronic acid-based soft tissue fillers that are
already used in 47 percent of plastic
surgeons responding to a recent ASPS survey believe injectables can enhance the
results of facial surgery. Last year, more than 1.5 million Americans
smoothed wrinkles with injectables, according to the ASPS. Almost 5 million
Americans had non-surgical cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in 2002. The FDA
panel’s recommendation for conditional approval of Restylane and Hylaform will
almost certainly mean demand for injectables, an ever-growing segment in plastic
surgery, will increase. “This is the first time in over a decade
that patients and physicians have the option of new fillers,” said ASPS
President Rod Rohrich, MD. “People want to look as good as
they feel using modern techniques and technologies. These wrinkle fillers
are safe, do not require a skin test and are two to three times longer
lasting.” 43 percent of plastic
surgeons responding to a recent ASPS survey say injectables can postpone facial
surgery.

Men’s use of Botox injections to eliminate
frown lines rose 88%, while women’s fell. And for smoothing skin, use of
microdermabrasion among men rose 79% and use of laser resurfacing rose 13
%. Typically, men and women visiting plastic
surgeons for cosmetic reasons were age 44-59. The study showed most individuals tell
their doctors that looking younger is the reason they are choosing cosmetic
surgery.
